8 Months- Part 1
Has it been 8 months?
8 months since I started working as a houseman at HQE
8 months since a new chapter of my life begun
Housemanship is actually not as tiring as I thought it was gonna be
Thanks to the over production of med graduates everywhere
Basically every department of all major hospitals are flooded with HOs..
47 HOs in paeds department... LOL...
We don't really hang around jobless in the ward... but the opportunities for procedures are much blunted...
I started my housemanship wtih surgery posting
Surgery has not always been my favorite subject since med school... there is just something about it that I just can't 'get it'
Plus, i shall quote my dear father, who always always tell me " Girl, I don't think u are cut out to b a surgeon u know... someday you will leave a scalpel or something like that in a patient's abdominal cavity ... bcoz u are just too absent minded and clumsy.." LOLZ....
Turns out, I did enjoy my surgery posting and had a great 4 months in the department
Was kinda fond of the subject in the end..
I guess I had quite a good working environment, despite having to drive between 3 different hospitals for my work... and kena saman for parking illegally....hahaha...
Surgery department of HQE is just a happy place to be...
No surgeons from hell... and my boss is niceeeeeee
Hm... I learnt quite a lot in the posting...
Did my appendicectomies, intubations, central line insertions, chest tubes...
It was fun...
I enjoyed the rush of adrenaline the most...
I loved being in the acute ward where all the actions happen

My convocation took place in the last 8 months too...
was around my birthday... which means somewhere near 14th October
It was the first time my parents came to KK
(DUH they had not visited me during my 5 years of med sch in KK... okok i think my mum came with her students once somewhere during my 1st year... but that doesn't count..hehe)
I got my first pay during that time and managed to give my family quite a good time in KK
They were here for i think 3 days... nothing much to do in KK
But we stayed in Le Meridian Hotel and it was a fabulous place to stay
My grandma came too...
and of course my sister
Convocation is not fun at all
Trust me
It is so so boring
I guess the exciting thing about it is the part where we get to wear the robes and get our scrolls
But the waiting part is the worst
and of course the chaos of looking for your missing family when you got out from the main hall...
Chaos chaos...
But well, i think it was a significant event of my life
and for my family as well =)
It was good to meet up with my old frens but we didn't have the chance to really catch up with each other

Oh well, those are just the tiny weeny parts of my 8 months here as a HO
Not gonne write too much here in this post... gonna get boring..hahaha...
